I have been asked this questions many times, think I should write about it.
Who should pay for what in a typical western or Vancouver Wedding?
It really varies and depends on the financial situation of the bride and groom. And traditions differs between cultures, e.g. Chinese tradition is very different to Indian traditions, I may write a post about them later. But this post is going to focus on western style wedding and what are “typical“.
So please don’t use it as the golden rule, just follow what your instincts are as couple and do whatever you both feel comfortable.
Here they are:
- The groom almost always bears the expense of the engagement ring and bride’s wedding ring. He also generally pays for the marriage license, honeymoon, his out of town guests lodging, the clergy fee, transportation, and a wedding gift for his future wife.
- The bride usually pays for the groom’s wedding ring, hotel rooms for her out of town guests, gifts for the bridesmaids, a luncheon or party for her bridesmaids, and a gift for her future husband.
